Department of English

Basaveshwar Arts College realised the importance of English as an international language and setup the department in 1944 – 45. The Department is as old as the college itself. Noted scholar writer and critic Dr. K. R. Srinivas Iyengar, Prof.L.G.Hiremath,  Prof. V. K. Moktali, Dr. A. K. Maniyar etc., worked formerly and laid down strong foundation to the department.  Marathi Gyan Peeth awardee, Shri. Vinda Karandikar also worked in the department for a brief period in the beginning. The department was the second one to offer English as an optional subject, in entire North Karnataka.  Well known creative writer Dr. Veena Shanteshwar and Critic Prof. G. B. Sajjan are bonafide students of the department. Presently the department is headed by  Prof.Suresha R.
