Department of Kannada

Introduction

The Department of Kannada was established in the academic year 1944-45,in the year in which college was established. Kannada is the mother tongue of the state. The department was established to flourish the culture and heritage of Karnataka state and its language. Kannada is the language of state requires to be boosted as one of the three languages besides national and international languages. Even in the college Kannada has been prime and core language studied by majority of the students. Noted scholars like Dr. R. C. Hiremath (Former V.C. Karnatak University), Dr. M. S. Sunkapur (Ex – Chairman, Dept. of PG Studies in Kannada, Karnatak University), Dr. B.B. Hendi (Ex-Chairman, Dept. of PG Studies in Gulbarga University), Dr. G.S. Kapase (Ex-President, Karnataka Sahitya Academy).

Ex-Principals of the college like, Prof. S G. Hubballi, Dr. B. K. Hiremath and Prof.V.K.Morabad have worked with dedication in the department and have been responsible for its progress. The department offers optional as well as basic subject. Presently the department is headed by Dr.A.M.Satyanaik.
